"People will say we're in love..."

Oklahoma!
is the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II.  Set in Oklahoma Territory  outside the town of Claremore in 1906, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams.

The original Broadway production opened on March 31, 1943. It was a box-office smash and ran for an unprecedented 2,212 performances, later enjoying award-winning revivals, national tours, foreign productions and an Academy-Award-winning 1955 film adaptation.  It has long been a popular choice for school and community productions

This song has been presented and/or recorded by many musicians and artists, including instrumental versions. Three versions made the Top 40 charts: Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and The Ink Spots.

Featuring the amazing local jazz stylist, Denee Barr, topping the Top 40 Charts!

SING IT, Denee!

Lyrics:

Don't throw bouquets at me
Don't please my folks too much

Don't laugh at my jokes too much
People will say we're in love!

Don't sigh and gaze at me
Your sighs are so like mine
Your eyes mustn't glow like mine
People will say we're in love!

Don't start collecting things
Give me my rose and my glove.
Sweetheart they're suspecting things
People will say we're in love.
