How easily this year has slipped away!
Those longing hopes I placed on upper shelves
now rising up to challenge me with "Why?"
The Christmas stamps parade like little elves.
Is love a mere abstraction, just a word?
Elusive as those vapors we call clouds?
Will someone pin it down, lest I be bored
by verbal musings worn like thread-bare shrouds?
Those longing hopes I placed on upper shelves

The Christmas stamps parade like little elves.
Is love a mere abstraction, just a word?
Elusive as those vapors we call clouds?
Will someone pin it down, lest I be bored
by verbal musings worn like thread-bare shrouds?
Back to joining names with stamps and such
to summon peace and joy atop the cards.
But missing is that quintessential touch,
like summer skin inviting needy bards.
My tongue in moistened action seals each one;
and love once mine has spoken and is done.
