I seem to go back to George Seurat and his Park every summer when I walk around Lake Centennial in Columbia, Maryland. First, Seurat, then Sondheim, the brilliant musical artist whose work is so creative (difficult concept and music) that it is not always accepted at first showing. (see below)
The musical won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, two Tony Awards for design (and a nomination for Best Musical), numerous Drama Desk Awards, the 1991 Olivier Award for Best Musical and the 2007 Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production. (Wikipedia and edited for brevity)
Cut to Sunday the 22nd at Lake Centennial. Yesterday, it was cloudy and cool--compared to the recent heat wave--so I saw a variety of activities: walkers, joggers, fishermen. It was delightful. Here are some photos of the green horizontality of late July.
For me, after the Seurat/Sondheim connection, it was THIS BIRD in a tree that shaped the day--"a Song Sparrow. " A friend identified the bird and song. Because of her expertise, I listened to that sparrow sound on a BIRD SONG CD recently purchased, then went on to listen to the Wood Thrush and others...
There were magical shadows and mainly, reflections! Dark greens, subtle grays, on and on. Nothing bright, really, and no one talking. Trees in the lake, poles of fishermen! Today, our area returns to hot, but if you go to Lake Centennial early in the morning (it opens at 7:00 a.m. you will be sure to enjoy the sights and sounds).
Now, I could caption these photos, but it's Summer...the lazy time, so we are told, and besides, you don't need words to understand how lovely it was at the Lake, with or without GEORGE. Enjoy the walk, the move from virtual to real...your choice! Note: Some photos repeat.

A glorious summer post ... and we have a taste of it here at last!
Love your photos Kaydi.. Also, I note, 'your' rabbit looks exactly like the one that from time to time visits us for a chew of this or that plant. "Our" rabbit seems to prefer the oregano.

These are especially fine photos, though I always enjoy the varieties you select. Love, Mary
Beautiful, serene, and exactly where I wish I were this moment...
thank you my dear sweet friend for sending this blog to me. You've inspired me to get out this morning for a walk around the harbor. Not as serene and sweet as your lake, but a close second.
Love you! Maureen
