Dawn

It is now November 1st; this is the name of the moving company I chose because of its positive, even transformational name. Now, here is a poem I just wrote--same name. DAWN.

At dawn, no matter whether
it's a bath or shower—that vital rush
of warm water on your skin—
to calm the, you know, itch of daily need.

Question is:
Afterward, do you feel cleansed
of (hate the word) sin?
I mean, does it wash your cares away,
and, if yes, for long?
Does it last all day?

Speaking for myself,
I wake with hope and clarity,
feeling the prickly poke of the shower!

Then, moving through
that not-so-mysterious tunnel of time,
I tend to give it all way.
So, at end of day, no self.

Now, I've shifted a bit;
I’m trying to keep a tiny closet
for myself,
you know, that essential store of love
it takes to get the balance right.

Because--I've learned--if you give it all away,
you may end up feeling bereft,
and that, in turn, opens the door
to let that dirty
smoking curling anger
come seeping in.
Yes?
So here's the question now:
Don’t you think
this is mostly how it goes,
or at the least,
how I am saying it? Perhaps?
Take good care of yourself
or run the risk
of being cleansed by morning;
...but sullied by the night.
